Wilkinson’s Lemonade Factory Tragedy

Here at midnight on May 3rd/4th 1941, a direct hit from an enemy aircraft destroyed the air raid shelter in the factory basement. 107 people were killed including 43 children. Whole families perished.

It was the largest loss of life single bomb incident during the provincial Blitz. A second bomb killed 2 residents of No 3 George Street.
